The car drew a crowd everywhere it went.

Greetings ~

I have seen so many cars of the stars over the years. Some are fairly plain autos meant simply for the celebrity to get around in...the same as the rest of us. Then there are the spectacular machines that cost a king's fortune and has all of the bells and whistles that you would expect wealth to buy. One such automobile is the 1960 Didia 150 that was owned by singer/actor, Bobby Darin.
Bobby Darin, at his time, was a super star singer. He died young, like so many in the entertainment field but left a lasting impression in the music world. I don't know if I could have been called a big fan of Darin's. I did like the guy and he had several songs that I enjoyed.
Darin was only 37 years old when he died during open heart surgery. He had had heart problems most of his short life that the public was not aware of. Bobby had been an illegitimate child and was deeply troubled by it as he grew up. His mother never told him who his father was and he died not knowing. It's so sad that Darin died so young. He had a promising future ahead of him. One of the highlights of his life was buying this car. When he took his wife, actress, Sandra Dee to the Academy Awards in 1961, he drove her there in the car. I can only imagine the looks they got arriving in the DiDia 150. It really must have been a real thrill for everyone. This was in 1961 when custom-built cars were a real status symbol for their owners.
This blog is the story of the DiDia 150. I'm happy to report that the car is still with us today and can be seen at the National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, Mo. After reading the story, check out the photo gallery for pictures of the car then and now plus photos of Bobby Darin with the auto.
